The popular “1 cat year = 7 human years” rule is inaccurate. Cats mature very quickly during their first two years, then age more slowly and steadily afterward — so a single multiplier cannot describe a whole life.
This calculator uses the conversion recommended by veterinarians:

- •Year 2 = adds 9 more human years (so age 2 ≈ 24 human years)
- •Each year after = adds 4 human years

Calculating a Kitten's Age in Months
The first twelve months move faster than any other period of a cat's life, which is why kittens are measured in months rather than years. Set the years field to 0 and enter months to get an accurate figure.
At 2 months a kitten is about 2 in human terms and ready to leave its mother. By 6 months it is around 10, has all its adult teeth, and is close to sexual maturity. At 12 months it reaches 15 — physically an adult, though often still behaving like a teenager for another year.
